2020 has been a year of unprecedented events. We are now at an intersection of global crises.
Climate breakdown, Covid-19, racial injustice – all are symptoms of a toxic system that is ravaging life on this planet – a system built on economic inequality, extraction, the destruction of nature, and exploitation.
We cannot carry on like this
The system is killing us!
Our Government ignored the warnings about coronavirus with fatal results; it continues to ignore warnings about climate and ecological breakdown, with equally dire consequences. The UK Committee on Climate Change reported to Government that it is way off course to achieve carbon net-zero by 2050. By the end of this century Earth could experience 4°C of global warming due to human activities, and the resulting human suffering and impact on all life would be on an unimaginable scale.
Those in the Global South and in racially and socially marginalised communities are on the front line TODAY, they are dying NOW. Billions of people could be affected around the world, and many millions could follow those who have already paid the ultimate price with their lives.
WE WANT TO LIVE!
That includes everyone
People know the truth: the Government is failing to do what’s necessary to keep us safe. The social contract between the Government and its citizens is broken. Enough is enough. We have an opportunity NOW as we emerge from the pandemic to make the change necessary, but fossil-fuelled business-as-usual is fighting to regain its hold.

Actions will be taking place in Bath and nationwide on Friday 28, Saturday 29, Sunday 30 and Monday 31 August. From 1st September onwards there will be a peaceful blockade of the UK Parliament in London and actions in Manchester and Cardiff (where SW rebels are encouraged to be).
